The Unity Project
The Unity Project paired 24 local artists with 24 foster youth to design and paint large art panels that are now publicly displayed in Portland.
The Belonging Series
Completed in 2021 between August and December, the Belonging Series includes a collection of fourteen different murals installed at different locations throughout Portland.
Talking Walls
We teamed up with Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District to create a series of “Talking Walls” throughout parks, schools, and other public areas in and around Beaverton.
African American Artists
COTL collaborated with the Sunset High School Black Student Union and local artists for a day of art making, poetry, and conversation that culminated in the creation of an art installation titled “I Have A Dream,” inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speech.
Buckman Elementary School Mural
COTL worked closely with a youth group at Buckman Elementary and local artist Christian Barrios to design and paint a collaborative mural in the school gym.
AAPI Mural Series
In May 2023, Color Outside the Lines organized a special series of mural projects and artistic activities honoring Asian American Pacific Islander heritage month.
Eugene Meraki Mural
For our first project in Eugene, we partnered with the Oregon artist Jess Brinkerhoff to create a new mural outside of Meraki Coffee Co.
BLM Open Eye Art Mural
COTL worked with Jennifer W. Mark of Open Eye Art to paint a mural in downtown Portland at the epicenter of the city’s unrest.
“I Gave Myself Time” Mural
Teaming up with Kendrick Lamar, Branded Arts, and the artistic duo Rather Severe, COTL created a mural to help raise awareness for Kaiser Permanente’s Find You Words mental health campaign.
Lloyd EcoDistrict Mural
COTL helped facilitate the redesign and repainting of a colorful street intersection mural in Northeast Portland, with assistance from Lloyd EcoDistrict, City Repair, and the wonderful youth in our network.
Debuti Art Mural in San Francisco
We collaborated with the artistic duo Debuti Art and local youth in San Francisco’s foster care and inner-city outreach programs to create an elaborate public mural in the Tenderloin neighborhood of SF.
Community Art Healing Projects
Through collaborative art installations, we aim to facilitate community healing and hold space for critical conversation.
Oregon DOHS Mural Series
COTL connected three local artists with the Oregon Department of Human Services to paint murals in DHS offices throughout Oregon and craft community-oriented spaces.
